Gatka (ਗਤਕਾ) is a weapon-based martial art developed by the Sikh warriors, especially the Khalsa, in the 17th century. It's derived from the word “Gatka,” meaning "one whose freedom belongs to grace," referring to the fluid and graceful movements of the warrior.
  • Origin: Punjab, India

  • Purpose: Self-defense, spiritual development, and warrior discipline

  • Weapons: Swords (kirpans), sticks (lathi), spears (barcha), chakram, kataars, and shields
